Considering that I'm raising a house
of crazy little boys,
its pretty amazing that we've made it this far
without any of the kids needing stitches.
Yeah, that ended
when I got a call from the school secretary
saying that Blue had cut his knee
on some muddy rocks
and it was a dirty and jagged-y little slice.
Admittedly,
when I got to the school
and saw the knee...
I wasn't totally convinced
that I should take him in to a doctor...
(I probably would have just taken him home
and tried to clean him up myself)
but the secretary (bless her sweet heart)
thought that it had a lot of muck inside the cut
and should be looked at
(by someone other than me...
although she didn't say it like that)
I ran him into a urgent care clinic
and sure enough...
he needed stitches
(and a round of antibiotics
since it got so dirty)...
. . . .
Blue in his "happy place"
distracting himself with a book.
Not as afraid to look
once the painkiller kicked in.
I had the rest of the kids with me
(since I hadn't really thought
that the cut would require sutures)
but they were very good,
stayed close to me
and enjoyed watching...
actually, they loved watching!
The awesome doc
was great with telling the kids
exactly what he was doing,
saying things like
"I'm just tying square knots...
like the ones you learn in cub scouts."
and I'm pretty sure that Bean thought
that he could probably tie those knots
in Blue's knee...
Bean went and stood across from the doctor
so he could get a closer look.
And Bear made me hold him
so he could see better.
Bear was amazed,
"Mom! They can sew SKIN?
with a needle and string?!"
. . . .
Blue hardly flinched...
and I think he was surprised
that it wasn't so bad...
Actually, Blue was most concerned
about telling his dad.
He knows that his Mom is pretty good
with blood and stuff
and that his Dad gets a little freaked out.
So, he didn't want to call him
until it was over.
Boss won't even look
at the (unbandanged) wound....
he's a bit squeamish...
